News Anchor/Reporter Position

If you have a passion for keeping the communities you serve up to speed on all the twists and turns in an ever- changing world, and if you relish the opportunity to tell the stories that affect our daily lives, our anchor/reporter position may be for you!

Since 1948 The Mighty 790 KFGO has been committed to local journalism and that continues to this day with the largest radio news team in the state of North Dakota.  The longstanding top-rated station in the Fargo, North Dakota market, 790 – 94.1 KFGO is part of a very dominant six-station cluster. Our news team delivers live and local news on-air, on KFGO.com, through social media and on live video for breaking news 7-days-a-week.  No subscription,  just professional, dynamic news content delivered to our community free of charge.

We will spare you the “we’re looking for a news hound” clichés. We assume if you apply for this job, you have a passion for the craft. That said, it is also important you have social media and web prowess, which includes (but is not limited to) knowing how to Facebook Live and post to Instagram and having a knack for web visuals/videos. In this position, you are a multi-media journalist that delivers the information through whichever medium the audience needs it.

The right candidate will breed and foster newsmaker contacts and will want to be on the scene so they can draw their listeners into the story/experience! Our news team writes long form stories for the web and multiple condensed versions of each story to rotate on-air. So, the ability to write tightly is an attribute we will be prioritizing. The chosen candidate will know what it means, from an on-air standpoint, to talk to the audience and not at the audience.  Experience in doing traffic reports is also a plus.

News happens 24/7 and when it breaks KFGO is there to report and inform our community.  This position will require some on-call duties and weekend work as we ensure full coverage of the events that matter most to Fargo-Moorhead.  A valid driver license and clean driving record are required.

If this sounds like an opportunity you’d like to pursue, please send resume, cover letter, writing samples, and mp3 of on-air work to Paul Jurgens, News Director at The Mighty 790 KFGO at paul.jurgens@kfgo.comor by mailing to 1020 25th Street South, Fargo, North Dakota 58103.
